The end of April was our time to shine here at Texas Trees Foundation! We had the honor of celebrating both Arbor Day and Earth Day with tree plantings and tree giveaways. Check out the work we did in your local communities!
Continuing our celebration of Earth Day, we were excited to partner with Verizon for another tree giveaway!
Verizon employees were excited to take their trees home to plant! We always appreciate partners who promote green initiatives as a business practice and pass along those values onto their employees and customers. As we gave away trees, our Verizon volunteers left us with some Earth Day advice we wanted to share- “Grab life by the roots!”
Girl Scouts Potting Trees at Toyota!
Joining forces, Toyota USA invited the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas out to hear female professionals speak, with an afternoon activity of potting more than 100 tree seedlings that will grow out at the TXU Urban Tree Farm and Education Center until they are ready to plant!
On the day before Arbor Day, 100 girl scouts banded together to make their mark by potting tree seedlings which will create more green spaces. After their female leadership speaker session, the girls listened attentively to instructions on how to pot the tree seedlings at the Toyota Motor North America, Inc.
We were happy to share our love of trees this day with some Girl Scouts with green thumbs!
Edinburg CISD Receives 20 Trees!
Twenty Live oak trees were donated to five of the district’s elementary schools in the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District in South Texas.
Thanks to the TXU sponsorship, five schools received Live oak trees donated to their elementary schools. We were happy to hear that one of the teachers at Kennedy Elementary School, Mrs. Watson, and her husband plan to build benches for students and faculty to sit on underneath the shaded areas of the schools.
With this ceremony, Texas Trees Foundation emphasized the importance of outdoor learning and improving the tree canopy coverage for cooler, shaded areas that benefit the physical and mental health of the students.
We were thrilled to have three whole days to celebrate trees alongside TXU Energy at EarthX!
We kicked off our EarthX festivities with “Fieldtrip Friday!” This included a “kids’ zone” area where students colored and engaged in educational activities - learning about the benefits of trees that clean water and air.
We were so happy to be a popular booth with a constant stream of people gravitating towards us to get their tree seedlings! We gave away 3,000 tree seedlings to guests and registered several hundred people on our Tree Tracker. The Tree Tracker allows people to see the benefits associated with trees regarding their geographical locations and how they mitigate the effect of Urban Heat Islands, the financial and ecological benefits of planted trees, and more.
We were grateful to partner with TXU Energy to give away tree seedlings and were proud to be a part of such an amazing event which brings environmental education and awareness to others!
Although Earth Day is officially one day a year, we hope that guests continue to stay enthusiastic about being environmentally aware all year long.
