Dr. Rose Jones presents at Health Disparities Conference
Our very own Medical Anthropologist, Dr. Rose Jones presented at the recent 18th Annual Texas Conference on Health Disparities, alongside Brandy Kelp, Senior Planner for the City of Fort Worth’s Transportation and Public Works Department and Jamie Gonzalez, MeD, Director at Houston Healthy Cities, with moderator, Dr. Kari Northeim, Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health.
The ‘Healthy Neighborhoods Session’ was part of an interactive series of discussions, roundtable sessions, and knowledge sharing. “Engaging the Whole Person to Address Health Disparities” was the conference focus, in effort to “work together to build a more diverse, equitable world free of health disparities through meaningful dialogue”. It was a great turnout! About 300 persons filled the room for the presentation.”
Data analyst Intern celebrates one year anniversary
Happy one year anniversary to Farbod Tavakkoli Khomeini, data analyst intern for the Southwestern Medical District streetscape and park transformation project at Texas Trees Foundation. Farbod works closely with our subcontractor, Hyphae Design Lab, providing statistical expertise for the microclimatic data that will be used to guide landscape design and mitigate extreme heat along the Harry Hines corridor. Farbod is currently pursuing a doctorate in applied science at SMU. His dissertation research focuses on green spaces and human health. Farbod has brought great passion, dedication, innovation, and statistical expertise to the SWMD research and has been a true asset and valued team member. Thank you, Farbod!
Series of workshops hosted by Texas Trees Foundation
Going from the ordinary to EXTRAORDINARY was the motto this month at a series of workshops hosted by the Texas Trees Foundation. A huge shout out to the City of Dallas, Dallas County, NCTCOG, Southwestern Medical District, James Corner Field Operations, Kimley-Horn Associates, and Hyphae Design Labs for all the great ideas and brainstorming that took place. Stay tuned as we break norms and set high expectations of what a public street should be.
From the Landscape Design Team at James Corner Field Operations
We are thrilled to join the Southwestern Medical District team and look forward to working closely with the Foundation and their partners to develop an innovative, responsive, and evidence-based design for the district’s Green Spine and Green Heart. We are inspired by TTF’s ambition to rethink the role of infrastructure in our cities, and aim to create a connected, healthy, and safe place—a verdant urban refuge for respite, rejuvenation, and healing.
