Transforming the Southwestern Medical District for Health and Nature

UPCOMING ENGAGEMENT FINDINGS

We are currently looking for a SWMD Project Urban Design Associate. This person will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating the robust equitable engagement plan, outreach strategy, and overall project design and implementation.

VIRTUAL AND PRINT WALKING TOUR

How do you experience the District? Take a walking tour of Harry Hines – either in person or virtually! The tour provides opportunities for you to engage with the streetscape, identify challenges and opportunities, and explore potential alternative scenarios.

TOURING THE DISTRICT

On October 28th, Dallas District 2 City Councilmember Jesse Moreno joined the SWMD Project Team on a tour of the District. The group strolled down Harry Hines Blvd to see the existing conditions of the streetscape and discuss the multitude of opportunities. Councilmember Moreno was particularly excited about the benefits this project will have for all users, visitors, and the adjacent neighborhoods, like Arlington Park.

Thank you Councilmember Moreno for your continued support!

EVIDENCE-BASED DESIGN

This project started by thinking about how our environments affect human health. But how do we know that our design will make a difference?

We are using an evidence-based design process to inform design decisions. This is an iterative process that isn’t based simply on subjective reasons. We are using air quality, urban heat, vegetation quality, and other data to optimize and validate the desired health outcomes. Using credible research and modeling systems, we will be able to achieve the best possible health outcomes. Stay tuned as we share our ideas and findings!
