Community engagement and outreach have led the improvement efforts for the SWMD Urban Streetscape and Park project and have helped guide the project vision by translating the needs of the community into the design.
The SMWD team collaborated with MIG, Inc., an urban planning and community engagement firm with extensive experience across Texas, to execute Equitable Engagement Phase I in 2021.
Check out the report summarizing our community engagement efforts for more insight into how our team executed focus groups, community pop-ups, surveys, and more as platforms for the community to communicate their desires for the future of the Southwestern Medical District, and to read first-hand quotes from the diverse SWMD community, and more.
"Harry Hines is a safe and vibrant street for people who walk, bike, take transit, and drive. It is well-connected to adjoining hospitals, neighborhoods, and key destinations. The redesigned street calms traffic while maintaining emergency access. New streetscape amenities improve physical, social, and mental health while creating an iconic, people-friendly street that meaningfully integrates the natural environment".
