Dan D. Rogers Elementary Wishing Trees

We don’t make wishing wells, but we did plant wishing trees!

With the connection made thanks to the help of Texan by Nature, we were able to receive a special donation this year for five Cedar Elm “Wishing Trees” for our Cool Schools: Tom C. Gooch, S.S. Conner, C.A Tatum Jr. Elementary SchoolBoude Storey Middle School, Dan D. Rogers Elementary, made by former President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush from their tree farm in Crawford, TX.

Cedar Elms’ scientific name is Ulmus crassifolia for their rough leaves and is also drought tolerant - perfect for a native Texas Tree! These “Wishing Trees” provides students with spaces to gather around with friends and serve as an outdoor spot where students and teachers can implement their “Cool School” curriculum.

Along with these trees, Groundwork Dallas helped install Rogers’ new playground equipment from KOMPANPlaygrouds .

We are proud of the work being done at our Cool Schools to ensure that no child is left inside! And we are very appreciative of the recognition from the Bush family through Texan by Nature.
